In the fast changing world today’s modern generation suffer lack of guidance due to various external disturbances. Guidance at the right time would take them to greater position in life. Often children suffer lack of support and guidance at the early age, so even children with high IQ and high self esteem need to be guided.
Why gifted children need to be guided too
Gifted children need the guidance just because they need timely help to find their best and discover themselves their uniqueness. However they are gifted children they have the need for guidance and counseling needs as other children. The specific exceptional abilities of each gifted child require distinctive guidance to achieve their targets. I am sure the children come to these three categories.
- Cognitive Academic Needs. The gifted learners require knowledge about themselves and about their academic and career opportunities. In addition they need specific information about their own unique combination of abilities and the implications of these distinctive strengths for academic personal and career development.
- Individual Social needs: Guidance should be directed to help the gifted children become aware of their special abilities, their feelings, attitudes, values and inter action with their family, peers, teachers and other adults. Only a small proportion of gifted children have psychological adjustment problems. However there are some instances in which giftedness may be associated with giftedness may be adjustment with teachers, parents and other children. Finally gifted under achievers are likely to exhibit special adjustment problems.
- Experimental Needs: Just as gifted children need special education in the formal school setting they need special out of school experiences also. These experiences may take place within the frame work of one’s immediate family. they may involve in relationship with other adults in the community or they may be in the leisure time activities that the child does not entirely his own. So it is very important that every child today’s needs timely guidance to keep them focused towards the goal that need to achieve in life.
