Leadership plays a vital role in any organization, In order to make the work force to work towards the task in a more systematic way. Leader has got an important responsibility to get things organized. The leadership qualities are the basic for any leader to be effective in his entrusted task. To be a good leader one need to possess good qualities. Anyone who is a leader is not born with expected qualities of leadership; it is rather they learn all the skills in day today given situations. I would feel the qualities of a good leadership must be inculcated in the young minds in the school days itself. They should be given ample opportunities in school so that they exercise good leadership and learn good qualities too.
- Are leaders born? (OR) Are leaders made?
They are not born, they are created and they create themselves with good leadership qualities. Either way a leader is a person who guides others toward a common goal, showing the way by example. Leadership is the ability of a superior to influence the behavior of his subordinates and persuade them to follow a particular course of action.
Leader has the ability to manage:
Leader is the one who stands as example to the rest. Leadership is also known as the ability of the manager to induce subordinates to work with confidence and zeal. A leader has got multidimensional traits in him which makes him appealing and effective in behavior. The following are the requisites to be present in a good leader
- Brainpower
Leader should have a high level of intelligence with sound educational and technical background, so that he take decision at the right time for the welfare of organization.
- Handle emotions positively
A leader should be emotionally stable. He should not lose temper at any stage rather should be able to take team along with him.
- Sympathetic Human Behavior
A leader should posses a deep understanding about human behavior, learn to sympathetic, emotions, needs etc. and he should be able to deal with people and motivate them and at time s should understand the needs of the people.
- Respect the views of others
The leader should understand the views of others. If he does all the things in his own way he may lose the support of others. Try to get help and suggestion from team and if it is best use it for good.
- Inspire the Followers
It is not enough if the leader is self motivated. He should also know how to motivate his followers and inspire them with his words, deeds and human relationship.
- Planning and Creative Ability
The leader should take initiative because he has to take the lead to do a work and then only others will follow. The leader should also have creative ability to do things differently.
- Judging Ability
He should have skill to judge situations, peoples in a positive way. Leader should be able to judge anything. Then only the leader can anticipate the response to the actions and decisions.
- Responsible & Decision Making
A leader should lead from the front by taking the responsibilities and must be a decision maker. He should be strong and wise in his decision making.
- Guidance to the subordinates
Leader should be a good guide to his subordinates. He should tell and demonstrate the ways of doing work. At times understand them when they make mistake and lead them into right track.
- Personality
The leader should have an attractive and pleasing personality that impress people and should have strong will power to do things.
- Recount with subordinate
A leader should behave with his subordinates in a dignified manner. He should maintain good relationship with his co-workers.
- Be Truthful
Leader should be honest and truthful, sincere, fair and reasonable in his dealings with his subordinates.
Finally leader should be a role model to co-workers, If he is focused with the job skills and knows what are his tasks and the rest can fall into line, wherein he can guide the co-team members towards the task. Every leader in an organization is key person who suppose to know how things need to be carried out. If this is made sure rest of the task will be easy to achieve the target. It would be nice if the leadership qualities and skills are taught to the children in school days, it would prepare them for the bright future.
