Making children happier by being with them, providing them with joyful moments of learning, appreciating their good gestures and talents in public as well as in private, correcting their mistakes in private -with frank dialogue, ignoring their undesirable behavior, acknowledging their desirable behaviour, presenting them with motivators and rewards, reminding gently of their duties, negotiating then with compassion, not- repeating – reminding their previous mistakes and blunders when they are caught for the present mistake. Always it will be a encouraging sign that we can take time off from the routine visiting the students family at their homes and so on can pave a greater path towards a healthy relationship between the teacher and student and enrich their personality development in a greater heights.
Compare olden days education
To know better about education how during the course of years it has seen various changes, when we compare the learning that of olden days to the latest learning methodology everyone would agree with me the learning has been made simple for present generation. If you we read the history of olden days we would come across golden days of education, in which the guru was the master of all subjects, skills and virtues. The student had a great respect for his master. It is a urge need for all the teachers to introspect whether we as teachers are able to gain such trust and confidence from our children like the olden days gurus. We need to enhance and renew our relationship with our children. our approach to the children specially the problematic ones demands from us compassion, understanding, patience and friendship atmosphere for better learning.
Children look for role models
In modern society today children look for role models to follow, when we raise our children who are entrusted to our care to feel that they can accomplish any goal or task they decide upon, we will have succeeded as a teacher or a guardian and we will have given then the greatest of all blessings. To achieve this we need to gain their confidence and trust in us by becoming their role models and heroes by own good exemplary life and prayerful life. Children always look upon their parents, teachers, care takers and imitate them as they do.
Need a better communication
Communication is the one of the major concerns of the modern society, where there is no better communication there arises unnecessary problems, today the need of the hour is better communication between teachers and students. These days , there seems to be a communication gap and resisting relationship gap and resisting relationship between and children and teachers. We hear very often, students either committing suicide or threatening their teachers when are mended, and the teachers are taken to task when such unfortunate things happened. Hence many of us/ teachers are frightened even to correct children’s little misbehavior with a tendency should I invite unnecessary trouble on me?. This leads teachers to keep the distance from the students and thus teaching and learning suffers. A better communication between students and teachers will enable better learning environment.
The responsibility
When we look at the condition of the society today and relationship scenario of teachers and students the ultimate question would linger in our minds would be who to be blamed? the whole society is responsible for this. The parents with too much expectation from their children’s performance, the children with limited knowledge of their own growth weather is good or bad, the teachers with indifferent attitudes, the school management with best result oriented, with least botheration f personality development of students, the mass media with nation waiting to capture and focus minuet errors that occur and so on and there are many other reasons that are responsible for this.
Correct them with love
The children of today are more sensitive, they need to be handled with care, the teaching and learning should take place with loving atmosphere. No punishment have lasting teaching value and natural logical consequences . Be sure punishment will not help the child to learn better. Through punishment we cannot bring change in the mind set of today’s students. with punishment, children see no connection between their behavior and the discipline. With consequences, the child makes the connection between the behavior and the results. The teacher needs to be patient, kind and understanding. Never compare one child with another one, when a child feels this they started to feel unwanted, this feeling no child should undergo. Today handling children is a challenge and a vocation that God has gifted to all those who are in the field of education. Let every teacher take firm decision of making every child in his/her care happy and happier every moment, shaping them as useful and responsible citizen of our country with love for every countrymen and above all love for living being on this planet.
