In the season Holy week after Maundy Thursday comes Good Friday, which is the very important day of Christians. On this day they past, pray long hours visiting various churches around the town. The whole day will be spend with prayer, mediation and adoration.
The present pope the head of the catholic church Pope Francis’s call for all and asking every Christian to reflect the meaning of Good Friday as the day on which Christians learn again to shed tears of compassion and so this day should strive to address injustice and suffering throughout the world.
It is the day in which the Christians shed tears for the crucified savior, tears for every victim of abuse, tears for the destitute of so many in the world today, tears of shame and anger at the slavery that disfigures the modern world. They are tears which should be shed as together, Let every human pray for the healing of the world.
On this day all christens will gather in the noon to part-take in the passion Christ and there after veneration of the cross. the Veneration of the Cross came into practice in the seventh century, The church in Rome adopted the practice of Adoration of the cross from the Church of Jerusalem, where a fragment of the wood believed to be the Lord’s cross had been venerated on Good Friday since the fourth century.
According to the tradition, a part of the Holy Cross was discovered by the mother of the emperor Constantine, St.Helen, on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem in 326. A fifth century account describes this service in Jerusalem. A coffer of gold plated silver containing the wood of the cross was brought forward.
The bishop placed the relic on the table in the chapel of the Crucifixion and the faithful approached it, touching brow and eyes and lips to the woods as the priest said as every priest has done every since ” Behold, the Wood of the Cross”
Adoration or veneration of an image or representation of Christ’s cross does not mean that we are actually adoring the materiel image, of course, but rather what it represents. In kneeling before the crucifix and kissing it we are paying the highest honour to the Lord’s as the instrument of our salvation. Because the Cross is inseparable from His sacrifice in reverencing His Cross, we are, in effect, adoring Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Cross Thou has Redeemed the World
