Games and sports make part of school curriculum and every school organizes in a small way or a big way to conduct sports events in school to encourage students to participate in sports activities. Here I have given a few tips on how to organize sports event selection tips.
Instructions to the coordinators of sports day
- The coordinating team should meet the principal and vice- principal and fix up a meeting to discuss about all the happenings regarding their respective events
- In consultation with the principal and vice- principal, the entire schedule of the event should be planned and the work allotment for the event should be done, taking into consideration the strength and abilities of his/her fellow colleagues.
- The coordinators are responsible to lead their fellow colleagues with effective assistance and encouragement.
- The coordinators should make through follow up of the activities and also should be alert and flexible to any need of the fellow teachers as and when required.
- Monetary affairs, if any, should be decided in consultation with the principal.
Instruction to the participates
TRACK
- Sprinters should run in designated lanes and cannot cross lanes, throughout the race.
- Sprinters shouldn’t step on white lines that mark their lanes throughout the race.
- Before giving the ‘set’ command or before firing the starter gun, athletes cannot touch the other side of the start line with their hands or feet.
- If an athlete is obstructed, the referee may order the race to be held again, or he may ask the athlete to take part in the next round.
- Athletes may leave the track voluntarily before the race ends, but they cannot come back to the track else they will be disqualified.
SHORTPUT
- The resting position of the shot is near the neck and it should remain over there throughout the motion. With the use of only one hand, the shot should be released above the height of shoulder. An athlete can use the perimeter of inside the circle but certainly cannot use the border or outside area of the toe board.
DISCUS THROW
- Discus throwers are not allowed to touch the top of rim of the throwing circle, but can touch the inside edges of it. The athletes are also prohibited to touch the ground beyond the circle. And if the athlete crosses the circle before the disc lands on the ground then it is considered a foul throw.
- Each thrower you have 3 chances
LONG JUMP
- The athlete begins running from his or her starting position and jumps, landing in a sand pit.
Jumping from beyond this line results in a ‘foul jump’. No part of the athlete’s foot should cross the front edge of the foul line. The long jumper has three attempts to register his or her best legal jump.
RELAY
- The 4x100m relay is an event where a relay team of four members each run a distance of 100m in a single designated lane.
- During each leg run, the athlete has to carry a baton and hand it over to the next team member.
- The baton exchange has to happen within a 20m changeover box, located 10m before and 10m after the start of each leg, starting from the second relay runner.
- A team can be disqualified if any member drops the baton during the handover or if the handover occurs outside the designated area. The runner finishing the race will generally be the fastest sprinter in a team.
